First of all I want to commend you for going into the military and supporting this country! I strongly recommend you take your parents gratuity and wait until you are out of the military and have time to devote to a car. The worst thing you can do to a car/truck and especially diesel is let it sit and whatever you buy will be doing just that for possibly months at a time, and you really wont need it on base because personal vehicles arent allowed very often until you are a higher rank.You seem to be a pretty sharp kid, invest a big portion of your paychecks and save the rest to buy a nice fixer-upper when you retire.
