Question #1:

I am interested in beginning a career in truck driving, any suggestions?

Looking for some input from those currently in the field,I would greatly appreciate it. Good companies to work for, ones to avoid, should I attend school prior to applying for a position, or should I use employer-provided training.

Question #2:

How do you handle a mean teacher that can fail you?

The school I go to has a contract with a truck driver to train people under the schools name. One of the teachers is racist and mean towards mean .I alamost walked out of class.I am driving a long 18 wheeler and doing crazy manevers .I have never done this before .It takes all that I have to drive this beast. My back and ankles are hurting .I am sweating from the heat I am doing my best .I dont know why he yells only at me but not at nobody else when tehy mess up.I am suppused to get 24 hours on the road before I get tested for my cdl .I have only 7 hours.I am left behind. The whole class likes me and feels I am being done wrong.I feel like I am havign people turn there back on me.I wish he wasnt in my way.I dont like him no more.I dont know what I have done to make him hate me.I will not be able to pass this class without his help ..
I dont know if I should quit so i can have my peace of mind.Or just fight it out because life is full of jerks.

Question #3:

It's been so long since I've driven a Rig! Do I have to go back to Truck Driving school?

I actually went to truck driving school and passed in 1986. I have my diploma right on my desk that I just recently dusted off. :)

To keep this brief - after I went to Superior Training Services back in 86 and graduated with flying colors, I only worked for a lumber company for a year and then went (career wise) in another direction and never thought about being a truck driver again.

My question is this: Will I have to go through school all over again? I'm not sure if I can dish out the money required to go back to school, and obviously it's even more expensive now.

I guess I'm just wondering if I call Trucking companies and apply - if they'll just laugh and say go back to school first. Don't get me wrong, I know they won't hand me keys to a Rig on day 1, but maybe would consider hiring me to ride along with someone for the first 6 months until all this comes back to me.

Just wondering..... before I start making calls and applying.
Have a perfect driving record, but no CDL. :) I appreciate the answers..... My guess is I will have first try to latch on to a company and wait a good while before I can even consider driving again.

Question #5:

will we be able to make it work when he leaves for this new job?

so my boyfriend is taking a truck driving job. the company is based in Iowa and we live in PA. he has to go out there for 2 weeks of training first, which isn't really the part that bothers me. It's the fact that he's on the road for 5 days a week. and i'm worried that when he does actually get to come home on weekends, he'll be too tired to want to do anything.
and the part that sucks the most is i'm away at school most of the year, so i was really looking forward to spending the summer with him. but now he's starting this over the summer. i haven't told him that because i am happy for him and it's something he wants to do (well he wants to drive locally, but needs the experience so he's going with this company for a bit).

he works in a tire shop now 5 days a week, occasionally driving for them, and he's exhausted. but basically i'm just wondering if driving is really as tiring as it seems. and also is it hard to maintain a relationship with someone when you either drive trucks, or you're with someone who does? i feel like it would be different if i lived with him because i'd be guaranteed to be able to spend time with him when he is home, but i don't live with him so i feel like it'll be tougher.

Question #6:

How do you go about becoming a tow truck driver?

I am 26 and reside in Florida and North Carolina. I have had no accidents in the past 6 years and no tickets. I have no experience that even relates to driving commercially, but have always thought of being a tow truck driver. Any experience/stories of what its like to be a tow truck driver? Any advice on how one would go about training/schooling for this? Is this a satisfying job (pay, benefits, good work environment)? Anything you have to share is appreciated. Thanks! :)

Question #7:

A New Career as Truck Driver (Company Driver)...?

I'm very seriously considering relocating to the Gainesville, FL area. Something I've always wanted to do, but never pursued was to be a Truck Driver (a Company Driver, at least for now).

I've heard that positions as Company Drivers are generally plentiful and that the need is very high for drivers. I've also heard that some companies will even pay for the your schooling/training, in return for a commitment that you'll drive for them for a certain period of time.

Is this true? Any insights from others already in the field would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Question #8:

what careers will require less than a month training, and there is a guaranteed job?

I am considering truck driving. I meet all the requirements for the job, and after 3 weeks of training I am told I have a job waiting for me. I don't even need to pay for the school. The hiring company will pay the tuition.

I need a job right away, and I am wondering if there are any other careers that I could get into like this.

I'm not looking for unskilled labor jobs that pay minimum wage, or sales/telemarketing. No sales clerks at retail stores, or fast food jobs. I'm talking about a real job that pays a living wage.

Question #9:

I need ideas on how to find my husband a truck driving job?

My husband drove truck for a few years, then changed career paths for the last 4 1/2 years. I can't find anyone willing to talk to him because of the time lapse. I called truck driving training schools and they said they didn't know why companies won't hire because of the time lapse. I asked on here, and didn't get any answers. Ideas? He is shy and won't go online. He has a Class A CDL.

Question #13:

an officer called my house, do i need to call back?

There was an altercation earlier with a dude that thought I was following him home. We live in the same neighborhood. He stopped his truck and ran up to my car, I got out and said "WHAT'S YOUR PROBLEM?" It was because he already had his hands up to strike me. We talked trash back to each other. He told me he was 30 and I told him why does he want this drama and get back into his car. well he didnt want to get back into his truck and shoved me, I shoved him back when he walked back up to me. he said "Do you know who I AM?? I work for the governnent... how do you know Im not an undercover cop? I work for the gov. you cant touch me!" then he walked up and started circling me... he walked in between my car and me and jumped and kicked me. It really hurt so I grabbed him by the throat and shoved him before he could punch me. He was like circling me or something, I think he had training. So he gets in his truck after more trash talking and me saying why dont you just go home. He yells I HAVE YOUR LICENSE PLATE, so I walk infront of my car [i was already at the bumper] and i took a picture of his license plate with my phone. While I was squatted down doing so, I saw white square lights and realized he had it in REVERSE!!!! I grab this cargo net thing before I get sandwiched between his and my car. It broke. I apologized about the net, which was weird of me to do considering he just tried to beat me up. anyway, i drive off to leave the altercation.

I then see him driving around, so I said "hey man can you pull over so we can talk about it? this is stupid".

he pulls into a driveway and I get out to talk to him. I start by saying we are two grown men [him 30 me 25] and we dont need this kinda drama. I told him his necklace was back at the place where it went down. he said to leave because he was on the phone with the cops. he said I could wait in my car or something, but I was def not waiting around.

well i get a phone call from an officer saying he wants to talk to me, and I should call him. Do I have to? and what legal rights do I have?

I'm scared. Im a college student trying to better myself, and not deal with this high school drama. I wish this day would have never happened. some people are saying dont talk to the cops, because that just starts the cycle of persecution. and i have other people saying to call him

also one of the first things he said to me when we were both outside the car was that it was his neighborhood. making me think that he thought I was following him.
